Augmented Reality at Herbert Park with music/art app Yokai: Japanese Ghosts
Yōkai: Japanese Ghosts AR (2024) - Haunted Planet Studios, 12 Fitzwilliam Street Upper, Dublin, Ireland - Authors/Presenters: Svetlana Rudenko, Mads Haahr
Date: Saturday 21st September
Time: 2pm
Location: West Entrance, Herbert Park
Music Art Augmented Reality (AR) game giving insights into cultural diversity and history of Japan. It’s a ghost hunt with a smartphone for music art expression and insight into the culture of Japan. Yokai are supernatural entities and spirits from Japanese folklore. “Japan was a country and culture that existed between realms: the world of the everyday and the world of the supernatural” (The Snow Ghost and Other Tales, 2023). Immerse yourself in the art of Japanese Ukiyo-e masters and original music by Svetlana Rudenko. Follow the radar to find 10 music art encounters and collect them into your casebook to create your memories with a landscape. Staged at Herbert Park, Dublin, Ireland, we placed AR encounters according to the terrain and locative qualities of the landscape, e. g. lake, grass, cherry trees, etc. to fit into the story.
In her compositions on Ukiyo-e art, Svetlana used the pentatonic/heptatonic mode of Japan’s music language in combination with European contemporary harmony. She reflected on the different sides of characters, sometimes juxtaposing fear with humour (as in Skeleton Spectre episode), sometimes sorrowful (“A Woman ghost appeared from a well” by K. Hokusai ), or meditative/heroic (Benkei), a love story (Tod’s and Slug’s magic), and sometimes in the genre of lament as in the last composition (“Tametomo Rescued by Tengu”).
We will have promotional codes to download the AR app for free for the participants (usually it’s €6.99).
